Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC)

Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC)

A CRAC provides precise control of data center temperature and humidity, has a high sensible cooling capacity and is designed for 24/7 operations. Units are available in up-flow and down-flow air discharge, as well as constant and variable airflow configurations.

Compressor: The compressor circulates refrigerant through the system. Then it compresses refrigerant gas to create a pressure difference between the evaporator and condenser. This enables the transfer of heat from a cooler system (supply air) to a warmer system (outside air).

Filters: Filters clean the air entering the unit.

Controls: Safety and temperature controls help properly operate the CRAC.

Cooling Coil: The cooling coil transfers heat from the air to the cooling medium, which can be refrigerant or water.

Blower: The blower circulates the air through the cooling and/or heating coils in the distribution system.

Humidifier: The humidifier adds moisture to the air that is supplied to the distribution system.

Motor: The motor rotates the blower.

Heating Coil/Element: The heating coil/element transfers heat from the heating medium to the air, which can be electric or hot water.

Cooling Coil: The cooling coil transfers heat from the air to the cooling medium, which can be refrigerant or water.
