Built-Up System / Water-Tube Boiler

Water-Tube Boiler

In a built-up system, the water-tube boiler moves heat from combustion to water inside tubes, which creates hot air or steam. The hot water or steam is then sent to the air handling units and other components for comfort heating. This type of boiler has water in the tubes; however, another common type of boiler, the Fire-Tube Boiler, does not.

Controls: Safety and operating controls properly operate the boiler.

Burner: The burner mixes air and gas to provide efficient combustion.

Combustion Fan: The combustion fan supplies air to the burner to ensure air is present for combustion.

Combustion Fan Motor: The combustion fan motor rotates the combustion fan.

Fireside: The fireside is a chamber where fuel is burned to heat water.

Safety Valve: The safety valve relieves boiler pressure if the setpoint is exceeded.

Waterside: Waterside is a name for the tubes that contain water. It transfers heat from combustion to water.
