Service Logic’s expansion strategy is built on more than just acquisitions — it’s about creating partnerships that drive growth and long-term success. Nowhere is this more evident than in Boston, where Service Logic has transformed its presence through strategic acquisitions, cultural alignment and smart integration.

The Power of Strategic Acquisitions

Service Logic’s entry into the Boston market began with the 2018 acquisition of Cranney Companies, which was renamed ENCON Commercial Services. But rather than stopping there, the company saw an opportunity to strengthen its position further. Next, in 2023, came the acquisition of Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services, a recognized and trusted name in the region.

“Breen & Sullivan was a smaller company that had grown to a point where there was too much to do. We needed help and resources,” said Jeff Beane, Co-President of Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services. “When we looked at the choices out there, Service Logic’s platform fit very well.”

Rather than absorbing Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services into their existing business unit in the market, Service Logic made a bold move: It leveraged the brand recognition of Breen & Sullivan, merging it with ENCON Commercial Services while retaining the Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services name. This strategic decision was possible only because of the leadership teams’ willingness to collaborate and recognize the benefits of combining forces.

“We want to grow in every market, but the key is finding the right fit,” said Ryan Krahl, Chief Acquisition Officer. “Mixing company cultures without careful evaluation can backfire. When we enter a market, we do it with purpose and thoughtful consideration.”

How Leadership Alignment Builds a Foundation for Success

For any merger to work, leadership alignment is key. Rob Pellegrini and Jeff Beane, the respective leaders of ENCON Commercial Services and Breen & Sullivan, understood that coming together would allow them to better serve customers and create new opportunities for their employees. As co-presidents of the newly merged business, they led with a shared vision, fostering trust and unity within their teams.

This collaborative leadership approach resonated throughout the organization, helping employees buy into the change. Instead of resistance, the teams saw opportunity, understanding that by joining forces, they were becoming part of something bigger and better.

“There’s so much power in the scale of Service Logic,” Pellegrini said. “Our health plan and our 401(k) plan — things that were always a struggle for us to compete with — are now recruiting tools that make us a very attractive company for employees.”

The Results Speak for Themselves

The impact of this strategic merger has been undeniable. Since combining forces, the business has seen nearly fivefold revenue growth, solidifying its position as a dominant HVAC service provider in the Boston market. Service Logic has also continued investing in the region, purchasing and outfitting a state-of-the-art headquarters facility for Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services — one designed with feedback by the very team that now calls it home.

Beyond financial growth, the acquisition created opportunities for everyone. With limited customer overlap between ENCON Commercial Services and Breen & Sullivan, the combined entity expanded its reach without internal competition, ensuring that both teams benefited from new business and stronger resources.

The key to retention and recruitment isn’t just about wages; it’s about building a family environment with clear career growth opportunities.

“This industry is full of options. Skilled HVAC professionals can find work anywhere,” Krahl said. “The key to retention and recruitment isn’t just about wages; it’s about building a family environment with clear career growth opportunities. When done right, companies don’t face the retention challenges so common in the industry. Instead, they become places where employees want to stay and build their futures.”

The Right Fit Matters

The Boston expansion is a prime example of how Service Logic’s acquisition strategy is about more than just increasing market share — it’s about creating lasting partnerships, strengthening leadership teams and building businesses that employees and customers can trust.

The model has worked so well that Service Logic continues to expand its presence in the Boston market, recently acquiring Caswell Mechanical and Caswell Schena Electric in 2024. These businesses have now combined under the Caswell Mechanical name and operate as a sister company to Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services.

While maintaining two distinct brand identities, the teams will collaborate to share financial and back-office resources, infrastructure and an expanded workforce. This partnership also enhances service offerings for customers, including the addition of electrical capabilities, further strengthening Service Logic’s position in the Boston HVAC market.
